The Code of Fear

How the ancient concept of Eosphoros was corrupted to build the myth of "Absolute Evil." A cybernetic anatomy of fearfrom sleep paralysis to Gnosticism and Tolkien.

The history of human perception is not a straight line of evolution, but a battlefield of successive, violent systemic overwritings. If we want to understand how modern reality is controlled, we must examine the source code of the most powerful software ever installed in the human brain: the concept of Absolute Evil. This is the anatomy of a spiritual, theological, and biological hijacking. A “hack” that weaponized humanity’s primordial survival mechanism, turning it into the ultimate tool for social and religious tyranny.

The Innocent Dawn and the Greek Antidote to Fear

Before history was infected by the concept of “Sin,” ancient Greek thought had already found the way to defeat the primordial terror of the cave: Logos (Reason). In the ancient Greek worldview, the universe was not a theater of horrors, but a realm of geometry and harmony. Within this clear, naturalistic perspective, Eosphoros was born.

His etymology (“he who brings the dawn,” the Dawn-bringer) described the planet Venus. He was the brother of Hesperus (the Evening Star). The Greeks envisioned him as a beautiful, winged youth running ahead of the Sun’s chariot, holding a lit torch to scatter the darkness of the night. There was absolutely no moral baggage, no “fall,” no rebellion. It was an innocent, magnificent astronomical phenomenon. Even the word “Demon” (Daimon) in that society did not describe a horned monster, but the internal, divine spirit that guides a human being (like the daimonion of Socrates).

This fearless, lucid thought is humanity’s most powerful weapon. The Greek spirit never knelt before the darkness (whether real, imaginary, or biological). Instead of deifying the fear of the unknown, it brought it into the light, measured it, philosophized it, and demystified it. This inherent refusal to submit to the irrational and the dark is the true force that collapses every Matrix of power—and this unblemished, ancient core is the compass guiding the analysis that follows.

Primordial Chaos and the Invention of the Demon

To deconstruct the matrix of fear, we must descend into the depths of Mesopotamia. In the earliest civilizations, “Evil” as an autonomous, cosmic entity simply did not exist. In Sumeria and Babylon, the universe was not divided into moral extremes, but into a practical binary: Order (Civilization) vs. Chaos (Primordial Nature).

Tiamat, the giant dragon of the Babylonian epic Enuma Elish, was not Satan. She was the wild nature of the saltwater ocean, which the god Marduk had to tame in order to build the world. The terrifying demons of that era, such as Pazuzu, did not reside in some Hell to torture souls. They were tools. They were entities of drought and disease that functioned as forces of nature, as morally neutral as a modern-day hurricane.

The first major systemic distortion—the “Canaanite Hack”—occurred when the early Israelites needed to consolidate the absolute authority of their own singular God (Yahweh). To neutralize the competition, they didn’t deny their existence; they demonized them. The almighty god of rain Ba’al Zebul (Lord of the High Places) was mockingly corrupted into Ba’al Zebub (Lord of the Flies - Beelzebub). Ishtar/Astarte, the supreme goddess of love and the planet Venus (Eosphoros), was mutated into the male demon Astaroth. The ancient, naturalistic world was infected with the stigma of sin.

The Persian Contagion and the Sound of “Satan”

Even then, the word Ha-satan (הַשָּׂטָן) did not describe a monster. In its Hebrew root, it was merely a job title: “The Accuser” or “The Prosecutor.” In the oldest texts, Satan was an employee of God, tasked with testing human endurance. He worked for the system.

His mutation into the absolute cosmic enemy took place in the 6th century BC, during the Babylonian captivity. There, the Jewish elites came into contact with Zoroastrianism, the Persian religion of absolute dualism (the Light of Ahura Mazda against the Darkness of Ahriman). Injecting this politically formidable logic into their own texts, they merged the Babylonian dragon (Chaos), the gods of Canaan (Demons), and the celestial “Prosecutor” (Satan) into a single, dark entity. Absolute Evil had just been born. The perfect weapon of enforcement. If you do not obey authority, you side with the Darkness.

The False Demiurge and the Eye of Sauron

This suffocating, totalitarian Matrix was challenged early on, but the resistance was drowned in blood. In the first post-Christian centuries, the Gnostics—the true “hackers” of ancient philosophy—looked at the Old Testament and saw the security flaw. They observed a God who demanded blood sacrifices, sent floods, declared himself an “avenger,” and demanded blind, terrified submission.

The Gnostics concluded: This is not the Creator of the Universe. This is a usurper.

They named him Yaldabaoth or the Demiurge—a blind, inferior dictator who built the material world as a prison and masquerades as the Most High. In this reading, the Serpent (Eosphoros / Lucifer) was not the enemy, but the emissary of the true, immaterial Light. The one who brought Gnosis (Knowledge) to break the code of ignorance and reveal to humans that they were living as pets.

J.R.R. Tolkien, behind the safe veil of fantasy, captured this exact Gnostic truth. The “Lidless Eye” of Sauron is the ultimate symbol of the Demiurge. An all-seeing, authoritarian entity that creates nothing new, but only distorts true life, demanding absolute worship through fear. And standing against him is Gandalf, the modern Hermes Trismegistus, the bearer of true Hermetic Alchemy. A psychopomp who does not fight to impose his own law, but to remind the free peoples that they possess free will.

Biological Hardware: The Mora and the Pareidolia of the Cave

But how did religions and authorities manage to implant this fear of “Evil” so deeply?

The answer is not theological. It is evolutionary.

“Evil” sold so easily because its code was already pre-installed in our nervous system. For millions of years, our ancestors were the prey. Darkness meant death. The human species, possessing poor night vision, developed an extreme defensive pattern-recognition mechanism (pareidolia). It was evolutionarily safer to see a shadow in the forest, panic thinking it was a predator, and run (even if it was just a bush), than to ignore it and be devoured.

Fear is the operating system of survival. And nowhere is this clearer than in sleep paralysis. When the brain wakes up while the body remains muscularly locked (in REM sleep), the amygdala triggers the ultimate alarm. The mind, feeling weak and immobilized, must explain this terror. And so, it “renders” the most primordial enemy in the room: a faceless, dark silhouette. In Greece, it was named the Mora; in Japan, Kanashibari; some call it a demon, others an alien. The projection changes depending on the culture, but the biological root is identical.

As Carlos Castaneda described with the Voladores (the shadowy parasites of consciousness that feed on our anxiety and terror), if you stop feeding them your fear, they starve to death. When you stand up, get angry, and look the darkness in the eye, the biological short-circuit breaks. Anger and logical consciousness cancel the primitive paralysis. The shadow vaporizes, precisely because you realize it has no power of its own. It borrows exclusively from yours.

The Alchemy of Myth: From Prey to Creator

Must we, then, destroy our imagination on the altar of sterile, clinical logic? Exactly the opposite.

If we allow dry neurology to completely erase the myth, we become machines. We lose our inner flame. Absolute mastery—the secret of the Emerald Tablets of Trismegistus—is not to “kill” the primordial mechanism, but to tame it.

Consciously, you allow your mind to mold the monsters, but this time in an absolutely controlled environment. A “sandbox.” Imagination, 3D, literature, the latent space of artificial intelligence—these become your Alchemical laboratories. You take the chaotic, uncontrollable fear of the cave, and you give it shape, rules, narrative. The Balrog and Sauron. You lock them inside the myth.

You cannot defeat something that has no shape. By giving it form through Art, you pull it out of the darkness of the subconscious and stand it before you, in the light.

Primal man was the prey of his imagination —> he trembled in the dark.

Religious man is the slave of others’ imaginations —> he trembles before a punishing God.

But the Creator uses imagination as raw material. He molds his dragons not to be terrified by them, but to forge the heroes who will cut off their heads. He now creates without fear, because he has understood the ultimate truth of the universe: He is the one writing the code.

The Eosphoroi: The Threat of Awakening

This entire journey leads us to the absolute, dangerous truth that centuries have tried to bury:

Eosphoros was never a person, a fallen angel, or a specific star.

Eosphoros is an attribute. It is us.

“Eosphoroi” (Dawn-bringers) are all those who refused to remain in the darkness of the cave. The people who, instead of bowing to their primordial, biological terror, decided to manipulate it. Those who turned and looked the terrifying shadow in the eye, short-circuiting the paralysis. Those who used Logos, Alchemy, and Imagination to light their own torch.

This is exactly why ancient thought, Gnosticism, and Hermetic philosophy were hunted down with such mania. The centralized system—the religion of the “All-Seeing One”—feeds exclusively on the fear of the flock. If a human tames their demons, if they understand that they have the power to dissolve the “Mora” of ignorance on their own, then they no longer need authority. They become Unenslaved*.

The construction of “Absolute Evil” was simply the last defense of a power system against its greatest fear: a humanity full of light-bringers. A humanity of Eosphoroi, who know that creation and salvation lie in their own hands.

Note:

* Unenslaved (Greek: αδούλωτος / adoulotos - a- privative + doulonome/enslaved): The untamed, free spirit that cannot and refuses to be subjugated. A concept often forgotten in modern vocabulary, just as the very root of free human nature has been forgotten.
